There is a call for all of us to be great, do something great, or have something great. I think most of us struggle with the thought God wants us to be Great. It's addressed twice in scripture with Christ, once asked by the disciples about "reigning with Christ" and once about "whose the greatest in the Kingdom", neither of these examples leaves us with proof God doesn't want us to be great but principles that go with greatness. I believe desiring to be great is part of wanting to accomplish great things, they both go together, can't have one without the other, kind of like a good peanut butter & jelly sandwich with a tall class of cold milk. Yum!
If we look to the scriptures they support God being great in, to & through us. Christ was constantly improving the lives of people he touched and sending them forth GREATER than before their encounter with him. The words of Jeremiah, my favorite OT prophet, says in 29:11, "I know what I'm doing, I have it all planned out-plans to take care of you, plans to give you the future you hope for". (message bible) Did you get that? Plans to give you the future you hope for, then I'm hoping for great things!!!!!!! It has been said the enemy of greatness is average and the brother to average is mediocrity. If that is the only thing standing in the way of greatness in your life then knock it out with a death punch that will rattle both mediocrity & average together for good!
The following are some things you can begin to put into practice that will help you arrive at GREATNESS sooner than later;
1. Think Great Thoughts- Phil. 4:8
2. Read Great Books- Rom. 12:2
3. Pursue Great People- Prov. 13:20
4. Dream Great Dreams- Eph. 3:20
5. Pray Great Prayers- John 16:23-24
6. Take Great Risks- Heb. 11:6
7. Make Great Sacrifices- John 15:13
8. Enjoy Great Moments- Ecc. 3:12-13
9. Empower Great people- 2 Tim. 2:2
10. Develop Great Habits- 1 Tim. 4:8

Great Word!
I used to think that ‘great things’ were beyond me. That was because I related great to worldly things like the QB who won the Superbowl or the person who started a great business in their garage.
Then I realized that the widow who gave a ‘mite’ was singled out by Jesus as having done a great thing. So I started looking at greatness from the perspective of God’s Word. Everytime I do a kind thing in the spirit of Christ, that is greatness. Every person I tell what God has done for me, that is greatness.
I still have large goals and dreams for my family in areas of health and finance, but I strive to have the 1 Timothy 4:8 mindset that while exercising my body is a good habit, exercising the things pleasing to God is GREAT!
Hi Pastor -
What a great word of encouragement to strive for greatness in our lives! Thank you for sharing that! I think it's easy to confuse greatness with popularity and worldly success, and what you wrote really shows that greatness in our lives is when God is the focus and internal drive behind what we do (creating a display of His greatness), not how many people know our names or how many compliments we receive for a "job well done". Thanks! You're the greatest! I so enjoy reading what you have to share!!
